Today I Met…

Classroom Visits

Today I Met … is an award-winning educational initiative of the Georgia Council for International Visitors that connects international exchange participants with students in Georgia’s public, private, and charter schools.

The program is designed for any grade level, K–12 as well as higher education, and students interested in global learning, cultural exchange and real-world perspectives that extend beyond the classroom.

Today I Met… school visits support a two-way learning experience that benefits both students and international visitors.

Who Participates?

Today I Met… participants include:

  • International visitors representing a broad array of countries and professional fields

  • Students across Georgia public, private, and charter schools

  • Educators and school administrators collaborating with GCIV staff

Schools throughout the Metro Atlanta area are invited to participate in Today I Met… with plans to expand statewide.

Connecting Emerging Global Leaders with Georgia Students

Role of Georgia Students & Schools

Educators, schools and students can connect with the world by:

  • Hosting international visitors in classrooms

  • Integrating school visits into social studies and global learning curricula

  • Facilitating dialogue that encourages curiosity and mutual respect

GCIV staff work closely with educators to ensure visits are age-appropriate, educationally aligned, and meaningful for all participants.

International Visitors Experience

During classroom visits, international visitors:

  • Share insights about their home countries, cultures, and professional expertise

  • Engage directly with students through presentation and discussion

  • Gain a deeper understanding of American education, culture and student life

Today I Met… offers visitors an authentic perspective on life in the United States through the voices of students themselves.

Global Impact

Today I Met … creates global impact by:

  • Enriching social studies and global education curricula

  • Encouraging cross-cultural understanding at an early age

  • Enabling students to participate in citizen diplomacy efforts

  • Providing international visitors with firsthand insight into U.S. communities

Classroom visits help shape globally informed students while strengthening international understanding.

Small interactions—including brief conversations or visits—often leave lasting impressions that extend well beyond the classroom.
