International Dining Experiences

Enjoy International Dining with International Visitors

International Dining Experiences (IDEs) are designed for GCIV members, guests, and community participants who are interested in global engagement in an informal, social environment.

IDEs take place at a variety of local ethnic restaurants, offering participants the opportunity to interact with international visitors while experiencing diverse global cuisines.

International Dining Experiences are well-suited for anyone who wants to participate in an international exchange without the commitment of hosting visitors in their home for dinner hospitality.

Who Participates?

Community-Based Cultural Exchange Through Food and Conversation

International Dining Experience (IDEs) participants include:

  • International visitors participating in federally sponsored professional exchange programs implemented across Georgia by GCIV

  • GCIV members, guests, trustees and volunteers

  • Friends, neighbors, referrals, and first-time participants providing them an introduction to GCIV

  • Community members with an interest in international affairs

This mix of local and international participants creates a welcoming environment for meaningful, casual conversation and connection.

International Dining Experience Testimonial

I truly want to thank GCIV for allowing me the pleasure of meeting and entertaining these wonderful people. It’s an experience I will never forget.
— GCIV Member Vicki Van Der Hoek

Role of Georgia Attendees

Community members play a central role in the International Dining Experiences (IDEs) by participating in open dialogue and welcoming international visitors into shared social spaces. GCIV members are encouraged to bring friends or neighbors as an introduction to GCIV, helping broaden community involvement in citizen diplomacy.

Many participants also value IDEs as an opportunity to connect with fellow GCIV members who share an interest in global engagement.

International Visitor Experience

Through International Dining Experiences, international visitors gain insight into everyday life in Georgia beyond formal meetings and professional visits. Conversations over a shared meal allow visitors to:

  • Engage directly and casually with local residents

  • Learn about American culture and community life

  • Share perspectives about their home countries and professional backgrounds

These informal interactions complement structured exchange programs and deepen mutual understanding.

Global Impact

While informal by design, International Dining Experiences contribute to GCIV’s broader mission by:

  • Strengthening people-to-people connections

  • Building cultural awareness at the local level

  • Supporting positive perceptions of the United States abroad

  • Encouraging sustained interest in international exchange

  • Facilitating continued global collaboration

Small interactions—shared meals and conversations—often leave lasting impressions that extend well beyond the International Dining Experience itself.
