also means it's time for the International Consular
Ball. An Atlanta tradition for 28 years, the
International Consular Ball honors the Georgia Consular
Corps for its efforts in furthering international
relations in Atlanta and the southeastern United
States. In this regard, the Georgia Council for
International Visitors and the Georgia Consular Corps
share a similar mission. The Consular Ball is Atlanta's
premier international celebration and networking event,

Disability Advocates Share
Insight with Atlanta
Counterparts
In April 2009
GCIV coordinated a professional exchange program through
the U.S. State Department's International Visitor
Leadership Program for three distinguished guests from
Afghanistan, Bhutan, and India. This delegation
was made of a diverse group of disability
advocates. While in the U.S., the delegation
traveled to Atlanta, Washington, DC, and
Pittsburgh. The program was designed to give our
guests the opportunity to meet with their professional
counterparts to discuss advocacy efforts, services for
the disabled, and disability rights. While in
Atlanta, our guests met with representatives from the
Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities, Bobby
Dodd Institute, disABILITY Link, the Georgia Public
Library System, and the Georgia Institute of
Technology's ADAPTS program. They also had the
opportunity to enjoy dinner in the homes of GCIV
members. We at GCIV hope to hear of their
continued progress in their respective careers, and are
grateful we had the opportunity to host them here in our
community.
