"We have been involved with GCIV for more than 21 years. Having each been interested in other cultures and places since childhood, and having lived abroad for eleven years, we feel that GCIV is an excellent way to further good relationships between countries and cultures through direct interaction among people. Although support of the organization is important through volunteering our time in helping to raise funds and garner new support, probably the most important thing we can do is to foster relationships with the foreign visitors who have traveled to Atlanta as part of their time in the US."

Global Lunch Forum
Global Lunch Forum
Join us for a highly entertaining and informative lunchtime presentation by renowned activist, artist, and Honorary US Cultural Ambassador, Yewande Austin. This summer, Yewnade executed the first phase of her long-awaited initiative in Lagos, Nigeria, lifting the veil on human trafficking by telling compelling stories of youth exploited by poverty, along with showcasing the heroes on the front lines of this global epidemic, including women and children survivors of the Boko Haram kidnappings. By using traditional music education and sustainable skills workshops to address and help overcome the trauma, Yewande is positively transforming lives. All of this work is being captured in a documentary called "Amazing Grace: Freedom's Song," directed by award-winning filmmakers, The Horne Brothers, and due for release in 2016.

There is no charge for GCIV members at the Consul level and above. Fee for all other GCIV members is $10; and $15 for non-members (includes lunch).

When: Monday, October 12, 12:00 - 1:30 PM

Where: Regency Suites Hotel, Magnolia Room, 975 West Peachtree Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30309

GCIVisits Argentina and Uruguay Highlights
GCIVisits Argentina and Uruguay Highlights
In September, GCIV members and friends traveled to Buenos Aires and Montevideo on a goodwill mission in celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the IVLP.

The trip was organized by GCIV Executive Director Shell Stuart and co-lead by Jennifer Clinton, President of GlobalTiesUS.

Visit highlights included briefings and receptions at the Official Residences in both countries, a meeting and tour of the Buenos Aires stock exchange, a soccer match between River Plate and Lanús (with fans singing throughout the entire game), a tour of political graffiti and street art, a tour of the Argentine Congress followed by a briefing by congressmen and meetings with IVLP alumni throughout. Ricardo Vanella, IVLP alumnus and GlobalTiesUS board member treated our delegation to a very special, authentic Argentine barbecue in his home.

Our group welcomed the opportunity to reconnect with old friends, experience citizen diplomacy from the visitors point of view and explore two fascinating countries.

We were bowled over by the enthusiasm and fun level at GCIV's first annual Bowling League of Nations, held on Saturday, September 12!

It was a huge success, with more than 100 GCIV members and new friends joining us for an afternoon of excitement, laughter, friendly competition, and of course, the opportunity to promote citizen diplomacy — one frame at a time!

Thank you to everyone who supported our inaugural event, and special thanks to our rockin' DJ, RJ Paulisick, our incomparable MC, Audrey Galex, and our fabulous chair, Lauren Seidl!

Transatlantic Passage to Spain: A New Travel Opportunity
Transatlantic Passage to Spain: A New Travel Opportunity
GCIV members and friends are invited to join our former Executive Director, George Brown, on a new travel experience April 15-29, 2016: A transatlantic cruise from Ft. Lauderdale Florida to Barcelona, Spain with six port calls in Portugal and Spain. This is a great travel bargain, with cabin prices (per person/double occupancy) for the 14 night voyage starting at $1,425 for an inside cabin and $1,695 for a balcony on Celebrity Equinox.

Passage to Spain is more than an ordinary cruise. It is the first in a series of Great Ocean Voyages that combine an attractive cruise itinerary with a daily educational enrichment program just for your group of lifelong learners during the days at sea.

Once you arrive in Barcelona you can continue your European trip on your own, join an extension to Madrid, or return home. Regardless of the option you select, you’ll be able to take advantage of some great one-way return airfare rates from Europe to the USA.

As a bonus for GCIV members, the fee you pay will include a $150 tax deductible donation to GCIV.

If traveling to Europe is in your plans for the future, contact George for more information: 404-583-7730; george@gtbtravel.com to see if this might be right for you.

Donate Your Appreciated Stock to GCIV
We are pleased to announce that GCIV can now accept your donations of publicly-traded stock. This alternative to making cash donations provides significant benefits to both GCIV and the donors, as it usually enables the donors to give more money to the charity than they would if they sold the stocks on their own, paid taxes on the gains, and then donated the remaining cash to the organization.

The donor can deduct the current fair market value of the stock as their charitable donation, without paying the capital gains taxes that would apply if they sold the stock themselves. GCIV benefits by receiving the current market value of the stock.

For further information about making a donation to GCIV in the form of stock, please contact the Treasurer, Bruce Taylor at brucektaylor@gmail.com.
