In honor of International Women’s Day, the U.S. Department of State will host ten women of courage on a special initiative of the International Visitor Leadership Program. The 2015 Secretary of State’s Award for International Women of Courage (IWOC) recognizes women around the globe who have shown exceptional courage and leadership in advocating for human rights and empowerment, often at great personal risk. Through this annual award, the United States honors the endeavors of extraordinary women worldwide who have played transformative roles in their societies. At the start of the two-week program, participants will arrive in Washington, DC for the March 5th award ceremony with Secretary John Kerry and First Lady Michelle Obama. They will then travel to separate cities for individual programming before reconvening in New York for networking sessions and activities designed to encourage future cooperation.

Donate Your Appreciated Stock to GCIV
We are pleased to announce that GCIV can now accept your donations of publicly-traded stock. This alternative to making cash donations provides significant benefits to both GCIV and the donors, as it usually enables the donors to give more money to the charity than they would if they sold the stocks on their own, paid taxes on the gains, and then donated the remaining cash to the organization.

The donor can deduct the current fair market value of the stock as their charitable donation, without paying the capital gains taxes that would apply if they sold the stock themselves. GCIV benefits by receiving the current market value of the stock.

For further information about making a donation to GCIV in the form of stock, please contact the Treasurer, Bruce Taylor at brucektaylor@gmail.com.
