"As a long-time GCIV member, I continue to enjoy many benefits of the organization. Some examples are: Attending informative and entertaining programs at the International Women Associates (IWA) meetings and engaging with a variety of interesting women who have world views through birth, residence, travel, education, and general interest; Home hosting international visitors through in-home dinners and stays; and traveling on GCIV-sponsored trips [through GCIVisits]. I am able to give back to the organization now as I was recently installed as a member of the GCIV Board of Trustees."

"Bem Vindo ao Brasil!" by Atlanta Community Journalist, Crystal Brockton
"Bem Vindo ao Brasil!" by Atlanta Community Journalist, Crystal Brockton
This past fall, GCIV was honored to partner with The U.S. Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, along with Brazil-based NGO Instituto Midia Etnica for the Community Journalism Exchange between the cities of Salvador, Brazil and Atlanta, Georgia. Four community journalists, two from Atlanta and two from Salvador, were selected for a 1-week exchange. The Brazilian community journalists visited Atlanta in December 2015, and their American counterparts visited Salvador in October 2015.

Crystal Brockton, who works for Clark Atlanta TV and is in charge of all program scheduling and reporting on special events, including international programming to CAU-TV, streaming from eight countries, including Brazil, was selected as one of the Atlanta Journalism Fellows who visited Salvador this fall. Chrystal stated, "Visiting Salvador through the Georgia Council for International Visitors and the U.S. Consulate [General in Rio de Janeiro], was by far one of the most amazing, enlightening, and humbling experiences of my life. I am forever grateful to the people of Salvador for welcoming me into not just their city, but their home; showing me their way of life, and teaching me things about myself and my roots that I never knew." Fulbright and IVLP Dinner Hospitality Opportunities
Fulbright and IVLP Dinner Hospitality Opportunities
At GCIV, we’re extremely proud of our Home Hospitality program. As part of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), emerging leaders come to Georgia to meet with their professional counterparts and local organizations. Home Hospitality is your exclusive chance to engage with our visitors in the privacy of your own home; giving our guests a chance to experience America at its finest, while enjoying a delicious home-cooked meal, lively discussions, insights, and exchanges about cultures, customs, and families. The following are our latest Home Hospitality opportunities:

Monday, February 15 - Four (4) visitors from Canada would like to experience dinner hospitality with GCIV hosts in Atlanta. They are participating in the U.S. State Department's International Visitor Leadership Program, focusing on "Countering Violent Extremism" and are available at 6:30 PM for dinner. The delegation may be split into groups of 2 visitors per host.

Friday, April 1 - GCIV is hosting Fulbright Scholars from all over the world for dinner hospitality, and we need your help for our second hosting opportunity in 2016! Due to the large size of the group, we are asking each host to accommodate at least 4 visitors, if possible. If you are unable to host, but would still like to participate, we are also in need of volunteer drivers to escort the Fulbrighters to and from their hotel that evening. The scholars always reference dinner hospitality with local hosts as their top enrichment highlight while in Atlanta!

*PLEASE NOTE*
Dinner hospitality opportunities are available to GCIV members only. To become a GCIV member, please click here. Hosts are asked to provide transportation to and from the hotel on the day of dinner hospitality. If you are interested in hosting or cohosting, please contact Emily O’Harris at emily@gciv.org or 404-832-5560 x15. Once you have signed up to host, we’ll provide a CultureGram for the corresponding countries.

Donate Your Appreciated Stock to GCIV
We are pleased to announce that GCIV can now accept your donations of publicly-traded stock. This alternative to making cash donations provides significant benefits to both GCIV and the donors, as it usually enables the donors to give more money to the charity than they would if they sold the stocks on their own, paid taxes on the gains, and then donated the remaining cash to the organization.

The donor can deduct the current fair market value of the stock as their charitable donation, without paying the capital gains taxes that would apply if they sold the stock themselves. GCIV benefits by receiving the current market value of the stock.

For further information about making a donation to GCIV in the form of stock, please contact the Treasurer, Bruce Taylor at brucektaylor@gmail.com.
