Lauren Seidl (middle of center row), John Seidl (right end of center row) and James Seidl (middle of front row) hosted a delicious barbecue dinner at their home in July, extending wonderful southern hospitality to GCIV’s Mexico Meet America delegation!
"We joined GCIV when my son [James] decided to be an international studies major as it seemed like a great way for our family to become more globally aware and connected to the Atlanta international community. We’ve enjoyed many different experiences including the Consular Ball, the Great Decisions lecture series, and a fabulous trip to Cuba. Next up is the Bowling League of Nations and a trip to Argentina. Recently we were honored to host the visiting student delegation from the University of Guadalajara at our house for some southern BBQ with our friends. A good time was had by all."

Global Ties U.S. Mexico Meet Atlanta! Highlights
Global Ties U.S. Mexico Meet Atlanta! Highlights
On July 5-11, GCIV had the pleasure of hosting a visiting delegation of 22 college students and 2 professors from the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, who were participants in the inaugural Global Ties U.S: "Meet America Program". This unique professional and cultural exchange provided the international students with a once-in-a-lifetime introduction to leaders in the areas of tech entrepreneurship and innovation in Atlanta, GA and Raleigh, NC (the other city chosen for this group), as well as opportunities to improve their English language skills and to develop global proficiencies.

The students attended two dynamic, interactive, hands-on career development workshops presented by Emory University’s Career Center, along with receiving invaluable professional advice to help them to jump-start their careers. In addition to the workshops, the students had a chance meet with professionals during visits to several companies, nonprofit organizations, and universities, including The Atlanta Tech Village, The Technology Association of Georgia, Microsoft Technology Center - Atlanta, Oglethorpe University (where they stayed!) and Georgia Tech. The group also toured many of Atlanta’s renowned cultural sights, along with receiving warm GCIV hospitality from our members and guests at the home of the Seidl family, and at a Meet and Greet event held at Noche Brookhaven. Participant Jorge Ocegueda summed up the sentiments of the students, stating "I have met so many different and wonderful people. It was a great opportunity and a really amazing experience I will recommend to my friends when I get back to Mexico!"

Donate Your Appreciated Stock to GCIV
We are pleased to announce that GCIV can now accept your donations of publicly-traded stock. This alternative to making cash donations provides significant benefits to both GCIV and the donors, as it usually enables the donors to give more money to the charity than they would if they sold the stocks on their own, paid taxes on the gains, and then donated the remaining cash to the organization.

The donor can deduct the current fair market value of the stock as their charitable donation, without paying the capital gains taxes that would apply if they sold the stock themselves. GCIV benefits by receiving the current market value of the stock.

For further information about making a donation to GCIV in the form of stock, please contact the Treasurer, Bruce Taylor at brucektaylor@gmail.com.
