| GCIV to Host 2008 NCIV Southern
Regional Meeting August 6-8 |

GCIV is proud to announce that Atlanta has been
selected as the host city for the National Council for
International Visitors' 2008 Southern Regional Meeting.
This event will bring together the national network
responsible for implementing the U.S. Department of
State's International
Visitor Leadership Program. Fellow CIV
representatives from the southern region and around the
country will join Washington, DC Program Agency and
Department of State colleagues in Atlanta August 6-8,
2008. In hosting this meeting GCIV will showcase the
best our city and state have to offer our international
exchange participants. We are currently seeking
conference sponsors to help us underscore the growing

| Australian Educator Talks Diversity
with Atlanta Counterparts |

GCIV hosted Ms. Ahdielah Edries of
Australia April 15-18. Ms. Edries is president of the
Islamic Council of Western Australia and principal of
the Australian Islamic College. She is the first woman
to hold both of these positions, and has a passion for
involving her diverse student body in a number of
interfaith initiatives. She traveled to the U.S. under
the auspices of the Department of State's International
Visitor Leadership Program to discuss diversity issues,
youth programs, and interfaith cooperation with her
professional counterparts. Click

Forum Network, six sessions of the GCIV Great
Decisions Lecture Series are now available online. Click

PM GCIV Global Lunch Forum: Understanding Turkey's
Foreign Policy Join two GCIV international
exchange participants from Turkey for a lunchtime
discussion about Turkey's foreign policy. The Global
Lunch Forum will be at the Istanbul
Center in midtown. The Instanbul Center is
graciously providing Turkish cuisine, so there is no
cost. Registration is 12:00-12:15, and the Global Lunch
Forum begins promptly at 12:15 PM. Space is limited,

PM GCIV Host Orientation Learn the "ins and
outs" of hosting while getting to know GCIV staff and
fellow hosts. GCIV will organize host orientations once
a quarter to help experienced and new hosts alike stay
informed and become better citizen diplomats.
Participation in an orientation is mandatory for all
hosts. Please join us for one at your earliest
convenience. The orientation will take place at the Regency
Suites Hotel, 975 West Peachtree Street in midtown.

Saturday, May
17th - 6:00-10:00 PM GCIV Envoy Event Join
GCIV young professionals for dinner and a movie with
Indian flavor. Meet at 6:00 PM at Planet
Bombay for dinner, and then we'll go to the Film
Festival of India at the High Museum. We will see
Outsourced, a comedy about a young man from
Seattle who finds himself in outsourced to a small
village outside of Mumbai. Cost is $5 general admission
and $4 for students and museum members. Each person will
be responsible for purchasing their own meal and ticket.

For Understanding Host Families Needed Youth For
Understanding is currently seeking host families for the
2008-09 school year. It has dedicated itself for over
fifty years to helping students and families around the
world to better understand and perceive a much more
interconnected world. YFU offers the opportunity to
discover new traditions and experience unique cultures
by hosting an exchange student. They also offer
opportunities to travel abroad as an exchange student to

the President-A View from Berlin This SCIS
Briefing will feature Dr. John Hulsman, Alfred von
Oppenheim Scholar in Residence for the German Council on
Foreign Relations in Berlin, and is co-hosted by the
Atlanta Chapter of the American Council on Germany.
Tickets are $15 for SCIS and ACG members, and $20 to the

PM Atlanta Council on International Relations
Luncheon Peter White, President of the Southern
Center for International Studies, will address the May
ACIR Luncheon. The topic of discussion is "Suggested
Foreign Policy for the Next Administration." The
luncheon is at the Capital City Club, 7 Harris Street,
NW. The cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members.
